Bought a great BMW E39 but no or limited options ? Here is a unique retrofit project opportunity to purchase a complete set of original BMW 16:9 widescreen navigation, top hifi audio equipment, digital DVB-T video and bluetooth interface with voice recognition !
Great setup, 16:9 navigation always ready to use while driving, top hifi sound quality is a giant leap forward compared to the basic stereo.
The set will fit E39 sedan (limo) editions
, most of the ECUs are the later or latest versions and as a whole it is at the PU01 (9/2001) wiring level.
Fully tested. All required parts, to the smallest screw or tiniest contact, have been removed with utmost care. Nothing has been cut or torn off.
All ECUs were working properly upon removal and I've done additional testing with INPA to verify that is indeed the case. All top hifi speakers/channels work, each of them has passed the diagnostics sound test. The laser unit of the MK4 DVD navigation computer has been carefully swapped especially for this sale by a genuine new part from Sanyo and it has been greased with special purpose Molykote lubricant. It was still working properly, not that, I've could have sold it as-is, but on hot summer days it started to fail. Now it works perfectly again and I've done heat testing with a hair dryer heating up the unit, no problems at all whatsoever. The fan of the unit also works properly when temperature increases.

Because the media/navigation is a sort of fully isolated set and not just one part, and because there is only a small basic interface to the remainder of the vehicle (power, I-BUS, speed signal, etc.) it should fit many older E39s. As a matter of fact, the set was fitted to a 3/1999 model. A prerequisite is the presence of the radio wiring harness connector in the left side of the trunk (connector X322). In the exceptional case you don't have this in your car (cars before 1998 so it seems), I can remove that part from the main wiring loom as well and include it with the set. Another prerequisite is an IKE instrument cluster which splits the I-BUS and K-BUS. The economy instrument cluster (KOMBI) merges I-BUS and K-BUS onto one wire, and that is not working properly with this set.
Obviously, you need to have some knowledge of E39 vehicles, wiring diagrams and know your way around in retrofit coding with NCSEXPERT. The equipment has been coded for a particular setup and it should pretty much work as-is, however it is recommended you properly code this into your vehicle setup. I will provide some general overview instructions with the sale and I will be available for (a reasonable quantity of) questions regarding coding and installation issues you may have.
The wiring harnesses originate from either main looms or original retrofit looms (EBAs). One word regarding the main audio/navigation wiring harness: it has been very carefully merged from two original BMW wiring harnesses, an original bordmonitor harness and a top-hifi harness, completed with some missing lines, connectors, contacts, and wiring harness soft tape, nearly all of it original BMW wiring parts as well, pressed with original BMW contact crimpers, to exactly match the wiring level of 9/2001. At the time I installed this, the required wiring harness was not available second hand and a new one costed half a fortune, so that's the way I went. But I took great care to make the harness as "factory-like" as I could. I just mention this for the sake of completeness, if hadn't said so you even might not have noticed. In any case, it has been properly working for many years in the car.
Another thing I have to mention is that the rear shelf speakers are the correct top hifi speakers, even though they display a white label (= basic stereo). The plastic speaker boxes are identical amongst all series, and as such I have retrofitted them at the time with the required top-hifi speakers, brand new original BMW parts of course. In case you'd have a doubt, feel free to look inside to check the part numbers, but I won't do that just for the sake of the auction pictures here.
Regarding the rear door midrange speakers: they have been properly dismounted together with their metal meshes. Most sellers don't realize this is one part and they just clip out the speaker and leave the mesh inside the door panel, which you can't buy separately. Not here!
